check out an interview…
Watch Allegra’s interview about ‘The Zen of Dogs’ on the Neurons to Nirvana podcast. We talk about practical dog advice as well as five of the benefits of dog training that can make our lives better - with our dogs, ourselves and our relationships.
The Somatic Hound had Allegra on to dispel myths and misunderstandings about dog body language. We talk about common misunderstandings between dogs and owners and how dog owners can learn to identify subtle signs of distress to show up for dogs in the way they really need us to.
In this spicy episode of FCKSMLTLK Allegra got real with Georges on how we use are accidentally and unconsciously using and abusing dogs as we seek relief from the loneliness and burnout modern society and miss out on the true gifts of dogs - their invitation for us to be more present, more embodied and truly in service.
What sets the naked dog’s philosophy of dog training apart
Dog training is so much more than teaching dogs tricks or even ironing out problem behaviors. Dog training is learning to understand your dog as a dog, to communicate with your dog in their language, to move through your lives together in a way that encourages the relationship and behaviors you want and gives your dog room to be the unique individual they are.
To show up for our dogs is a way of being and a way of seeing. Often it requires us to lean into our own growth points. Being able to be there for our dogs is one of the greatest inspirations to do the inner work we have been putting off or afraid to take on. In my journey with my dog, who I had to become to help her feel safer in the world helped me do what I needed to do to reach my goals of becoming a better version of myself.
I have found that dog training often needs to take place hand in hand with personal development, community engagement, and a spiritual framework so we can get our human needs met in human ways. Our modern obsession with dogs shows both an over-reliance on them emotionally and a misunderstanding of them as a species that has become detrimental to both them and us. By giving our dogs too much of what they want, we are often depriving them of what they need. Once dog owners realize how some of their loving behavior is having adverse effects on their dog it’s easier to pivot the perspective.
Topics she can discuss:
Simple and unexpected solutions to the common dog problems
The surprising things our dog needs from us and doesn't get
How our love is actually stressing our dogs out
The real meaning behind our dog's behavior and why we anthropomorphize them
How dog training can be a practice ground for healthy relationship skills such as boundaries, clear communication, nervous system regulation and having relationships where someone gets to be their true selves.
How our dog can inspire us to do our own inner work

ABout Allegra
My journey with dogs began in 2008 when I lived with a dog trainer and her six dogs in Arizona. I got my first dog, a Dachshund name Harley, and did apprenticeships with trainers in New York City and Austin, Texas before starting my own venture, The Naked Dog, in 2013. Between taking a pack of 7-20 dogs on off leash hikes everyday for 8 years, boarding dogs in my home almost constantly during that time and running training sessions for hundreds of clients, I’ve learned what really works with dogs. The answer to how to have a happy life with your dog is so simple - just learn how they communicate with each other!
As a long time practitioner of Natural Horsemanship, I sought to connect with dogs in a way that didn't rely on tools, treats or gimmicks, but worked with dogs’ innate psychology to produce the calm, willing mindset that makes dogs the life partner we hope to have - one who is responsive, patient, adaptable and with whom we can enjoy the natural world.
My training approach teaches owners to be the companion their dog deserves, someone who understands dogs as a species and respects their needs and cultural norms. I’m so excited to share this knowledge and help dog owners transform their relationship with their dog. There is no greater joy than to watch a dog who is getting their primary needs met blossom.
Mission Statement:
Most owners call us with one problem behavior they really want to change. Instead of treating the symptom and spot correcting only that behavior, we take a holistic approach that addresses the way your dog sees you and thus the world. These tools last a lifetime and can be applied to any training issues you face in the future.
WHY CAN WE CHANGE THE LIVES OF DOGS AND THEIR OWNERS? BECAUSE OUR METHODS WORK.
We teach you to communicate with your dog in a way that is intuitive for them so they easily and quickly understand
We change your relationship dynamic instead of only addressing your primary training challenge so your dog’s behavior improves in all areas
We help your dog see you as a leader, developing increased attentiveness from the distracted dog, cooperation from the obstinate dog, confidence from the anxious dog, and a natural respect from the young dog
We give you tools to manage your dog’s energy, attention, and behavior which can be applied to any training challenge that comes up for the life of your dog
Most importantly, our training approach teaches you to be TRULY tuned in to your dog so you know them on a deeper level and can head of problems before they happen
